1. A tradition of design excellence
In 1921, Giovanni Alessi Anghini made his first household objects in a foundry, using copper, nickel silver and brass with carefully applied nickel and silver finishes. By the 1950s, the family business from Omegna was supplying sugar bowls and bread baskets to hotels, restaurants and airlines. The designs were distinctive and durable. The Alessi design we know today was shaped by industrial designer Carlo Alessi, who also brought designers such as Carlo Mazzeri, Luigi Massoni and Anselmo Vitale to Omegna. From 1970, fresh creative ideas and Alessi's Design Excellence strategy helped the brand gain international recognition.
2. Alessi tableware: practical and considered
Alessi enjoys experimenting with innovative materials and technologies, bringing tradition together with new ideas. The Bavero collection is one example. Designer Achille Castiglioni was challenged to create porcelain tableware for both homes and restaurants. The result is white porcelain with a soft, rounded form and feel. To this day, metal objects make up the core of production, with more than 7,500 pieces made each day and exported to 60 countries worldwide. The company is also expanding beyond household products into areas such as home textiles, watches and bathroom accessories.

Interested in Alessi tableware? We have seen how these design collections can be both decorative and practical kitchen companions, for everyday use and special occasions alike.
Tonale: practical, warm and refined
The Tonale collection brings together stoneware plates, bowls, salad bowls, carafes and mugs. Individual shades, from grey to light blue, and materials such as clay, enamelled steel and wood give each Alessi tableware set its own character. Start your day with Tonale and the 16-piece breakfast set, which includes Alessi plates, saucers, cups and bowls. The cups have no handles, reflecting the collection's pared-back approach. Their sturdy, warm feel invites you to pick them up. The surfaces range from velvety to textured, while the inside is always smooth and white. Enjoy coffee in an Alessi stoneware mug or serve fresh fruit on an Alessi platter. Tonale brings versatile design to everyday life and special occasions.
Ovale: stoneware meets stainless steel
With the Ovale tableware collection, French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec created a contemporary range that pairs minimalist stoneware with polished stainless steel. Subtle curves and a restrained look give the designs a balance of rustic and modern. Use Ovale for everyday meals or informal gatherings. This white Alessi tableware has a delicate shape and comes in two colour variations, while Ovale cutlery adds a bright accent. The collection includes platters, dessert bowls, dinner plates, bowls and serving plates for salads and canapés. Use Ovale throughout the day, from breakfast to dinner and starters to dessert.
A spectacle of its own: Alessi Circus & more
Designed by Marcel Wanders, Circus gives everyday forms a fresh interpretation. Bright, playful colours create eye-catching accents. Alessi charger plates and small bowls in the collection are designed to be more than everyday objects, with patterns of circles, stripes and diamonds. Alessi Circus tells stories for the child in all of us. Positioned at a higher price point, the collection is intentionally produced in small quantities and limited editions.
Never boring: A di Alessi and Blow Up
A di Alessi kitchen accessories bring a fresh touch to the home. Their open designs let you see the contents of a bowl. Alessi's idea of democratic design is expressed in tableware with a simple, considered look. Other designs are playful and full of detail: instead of conventional Christmas decorations, one cake plate shows Santa skiing down a porcelain hill between gingerbread and marzipan. It brings a touch of humour to baking and serving. Alessi Blow Up by Humberto and Fernando Campana takes a more dramatic approach, with cool metal objects that seem to burst into shape. For interesting shadows in a fruit bowl, explore Blow Up and Blow Up Bamboo.
A surprise: Alessi Dressed and more
Some pieces have a raised decoration around the rim, while others have a smooth finish. Designer Marcel Wanders enjoys placing ornaments in unexpected places. The decoration highlights the design without overwhelming it. Alongside tea and coffee sets, Alessi Dressed includes cutlery, glasses, coasters, trays and tiered stands. The Alessi egg cup in thermoplastic resin comes with a spoon whose handle has a small hammer for tapping the shell. Alessi also has a design for ice cream lovers: Miriam Mirri's colourful Big Love ice-cream bowl holds 250 ml and comes with a heart-shaped spoon. Happy Valentine's Day!
