Lucide: designer lights from Belgium for every room
Whether a space feels cold or inviting depends largely on the light. That's exactly where Lucide comes in. Since the 1990s, the Belgian manufacturer has been developing indoor and outdoor lights that win you over with clear forms and good light rather than fussy details. Even the name hints at this: it comes from the word "lucid", meaning clear and well thought-out. With Lucide, lighting becomes a tool for shaping your rooms the way you want them.
Where Lucide comes from
Lucide was founded in 1992 in Antwerp in Belgium, where Ward Mertens drew on his experience in the lighting industry to build his own label – at a time when the industry was still fairly conservative.
The Belgian family business has long since become an internationally established brand. Today his sons Wim and Niek run the company as the second generation, the team has around 75 employees, and the lights are sold in more than 70 countries. The brand's Belgian roots still shape its style, which pairs classic restraint with elegance.
What makes Lucide lights special
What sets them apart is the interplay of design and technology. The models are developed by an in-house team of lighting designers, whose experience and creativity come together in the design process.
To maintain consistently high quality, the lights are tested before delivery. Because decision-making in the family business is quick, Lucide releases around 500 new designs every year, bringing current trends together with the brand's own philosophy without delay. Form and function go hand in hand: many of the lights are energy efficient and use modern LED technology without compromising on looks.
What Lucide offers
The range covers almost every lighting need. A flat Lucide ceiling light, for example, provides general lighting for the room, while a Lucide pendant light above the dining table or kitchen counter adds targeted accents.
A Lucide table lamp brings warm mood lighting to the sofa or bedside, complemented by wall and floor lamps as well as cordless models that you can carry around your home or take outside. There are also matching light sources, such as dimmable vintage-style LED bulbs, so you can tailor the light precisely to the situation.
Two series in detail: Cintra and Otona
Two series show particularly well how varied Lucide lights can be. Lucide Cintra features transparent shades with fine ribbing reminiscent of crystal – as a height-adjustable pendant light with brass details above the dining table, or as a cordless table lamp with an integrated, dimmable LED that you can move freely around the room.
Lucide Otona strikes a completely different note: here, high-quality metal plays with lines and surfaces, letting light escape through fine openings. Available as a table, wall or pendant light in black or white, Otona suits clean, linear architecture. It shows that Lucide has designer pieces for a wide range of tastes, which you can combine with other pieces to create a stylish lighting concept.
Light that shapes the room
In the end, Lucide is always about more than brightness. The brand sees lighting as part of the interior and relies on clear forms and energy-efficient technology rather than short-lived effects. With Lucide, you can shape your rooms indoors and out with intention – using light that picks up on trends without following them blindly.
