The rug is one of the oldest furnishings there is. For centuries, this textile – originally handmade from natural raw materials – has adorned our living spaces. The Spanish manufacturer nanimarquina goes back to these origins.
Natural variety
nanimarquina was founded in Barcelona in Spain in 1987 and has been dedicated to the traditional art of rug making ever since. To express the beauty of this tradition and of nature, nanimarquina mainly uses natural materials such as wool, silk, jute and cotton, which are lovingly woven by hand into distinctive rugs.
A tradition of handcraft
To do this, nanimarquina travels to countries where rugs still have a special symbolic meaning and where the story of their origin and production is woven into the country's culture. Every rug is painstakingly made by hand, using knowledge of traditional production methods, weaving techniques and tools.
Modern rug design
Alongside traditional natural rugs with a classic look, nanimarquina regularly works with innovative creatives such as Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and the illustrator Javier Mariscal, whose creative designs combine modern design with the traditional art of rug making.
Environmentally friendly, sustainable and social
To help preserve the beauty of nature, nanimarquina relies on particularly environmentally friendly production processes, such as eco-washing its rugs using only environmentally compatible cleaning agents. PET – plastic made from old plastic bottles, for example – is also used for outdoor rugs. In addition, nanimarquina rugs are made under the social framework of the Care&Fair philosophy, which ensures that production takes place without child labour.
To this day, nanimarquina stands for distinctive, traditionally handcrafted rugs. Each piece combines modern design with traditional rug-making craft.
