The origins of the Italian company Opinion Ciatti date back to 1950. Now in its third generation, the company is run by the Ciatti family and has grown steadily.
While the first factory produced bulky cabinets for record players and radios, the products adapted to technical progress over time, followed by TV cabinets, TV stands and computer cabinets.
The company took a big step in 1984: for the first time in its history, Flavia and Massimo Ciatti presented the company at the Milan Furniture Fair in Italy. Under the name "Ciatti a Tavola", they showed a collection of kitchen elements that was complemented in 1986 by the "Axis" collection – one of the first flexible modular kitchen systems.
At the same time, in the 1980s, the company began working with several well-known designers under Flavia Ciatti's leadership, including Gianni Pareschi, De Pas D'Urbino Lomazzi, Bruno Pozzi, Marco Duina and Christophe Pillet.
A meeting between Flavia Ciatti and the inquisitive, utopian experimenter Bruno Rainaldi also led to major developments in the 1980s. In 1983, the two friends founded the company CCR, which focused on home accessories and furnishing complements. Under Bruno Rainaldi's direction, the company created furniture, daybeds, chairs, mirrors and other objects. Among the products, some of them designed by Rainaldi himself, one stood out in particular:
Ptolomeo – one of the company's best-selling products, for which Rainaldi was even awarded the coveted Compasso d'Oro in 2004. Various versions of the minimalist bookcase column soon followed.
In 2006, Flavia's son Lapo Ciatti, a trained industrial designer, joined the company as the third generation. His arrival and ideas led to a restructuring of the company under its current name, "Opinion Ciatti". Creative direction remained with Bruno Rainaldi, but the headquarters moved to Calenzano in Italy and the name CCR was replaced.
Bruno Rainaldi and Lapo Ciatti went on to run the company in a partnership that was both artistic and entrepreneurial. For them, design meant experimenting and playing with forms. This understanding is reflected in the expressive products of Opinion Ciatti, which also reflect a non-dogmatic approach to research and a passion for design that have always been key aspects of production at Opinion Ciatti.
Today, Opinion Ciatti works with leading designers such as Marco Bertolini, Paola Navone and Jeff Miller. Every Opinion Ciatti product has its own identity and its own source of inspiration and story.
