The Can Lis collection: where architecture meets home

The new collaboration between Ferm Living and the Jørn Utzon Design Foundation brings the poetic feel of Mediterranean architecture into our homes. Inspired by the iconic Can Lis house in Mallorca, the collection combines sculptural shapes, natural materials and Scandinavian clarity. You don't need to know anything about architecture to appreciate its appeal. We show you how to bring the beautiful pieces from the Can Lis collection into your home.

The collection at a glance:

  1. The story behind Can Lis
  2. Design philosophy: what makes this collection special?
  3. Materials & shapes: natural character meets structure
  4. How to bring Can Lis into your home

1. The story behind Can Lis

Can Lis was built in the 1970s by Jørn Utzon, the architect of the Sydney Opera House. Rather than urban monumentality, Utzon focused on retreat, light and a connection to nature. The house is made of local stone, opens out towards the sea and is shaped by modular rooms that connect through light and shadow.

It's a place for calm and reflection – and that's exactly what the new collection reflects.

2. Design philosophy: what makes this collection special?

The Can Lis collection by Ferm Living x Utzon is a tribute to Utzon's principles:

  • Modularity: each object feels like an architectural element that blends harmoniously into different rooms.
  • Functionality: the designs are not just beautiful but well thought-out – from lights to home accessories.
  • Aesthetic clarity: pared back to the essentials, without losing their warmth.

3. Materials & shapes: natural character meets structure

The collection is shaped by materials with stories to tell:

  • Travertine: a Mediterranean natural stone with a warm surface, ideal for sculptural objects
  • Paper & wood: light, organic and perfect for playing with light and texture

The sculptural shapes are inspired by the architecture of Can Lis – clear and calm, yet expressive.

4. How to bring Can Lis into your home

Whether your style is minimalist or playful, the collection adapts to it. Follow a few simple rules, and your favourite piece from the Can Lis collection will blend harmoniously into your interior.

Here's what to bear in mind when bringing Can Lis objects into your home:

  • Choose accents deliberately rather than overcrowding the space. Pieces such as the Phase Mobile or Newel Modular candle holder work best when styled as individual highlights. Give them room to show off their sculptural effect instead of surrounding them with too many accessories.
  • Consider the materials around them. Natural materials such as wood, stone and linen underline the character of the collection. The Oeste LED pendant light with travertine details, for example, looks particularly good with a wooden table or light-coloured walls.
  • Play with light and space. The Lancet mirror makes rooms look bigger and brings brightness to small hallways and living rooms. The Phase Mobile also benefits from natural light, as it creates movement and shadows. Think carefully about where each piece can fulfil its full potential.
  • Balance softness with clarity. With its curved shape and bouclé surface, the Rico Lounge Chair brings warmth and comfort into your home. It looks particularly harmonious against clean lines – such as those of the Lancet mirror.
  • Think about atmosphere, not just appearance. The collection has a strong presence both visually and atmospherically. The candle holder creates atmospheric light, while the pendant light adds warm cosiness. Place each piece where it will bring out the character you want for a room.
