A series inspired by drops
Since 1964, Oiva Toikka's Kastehelmi series has stood for outstanding Scandinavian glass design. The series was discontinued in 1988, but thanks to Iittala, the Kastehelmi collection is available again today.
The Kastehelmi collection is inspired by dewdrops – which is exactly what its name means. Oiva Toikka's Kastehelmi glassware features the characteristic drop pattern on the outside, which brings out the lively, reflective beauty of the glass. Thanks to this texture, Kastehelmi bowls, plates, tealight holders and more feel great in the hand and look wonderful too.
The distinctive Kastehelmi design came about almost by chance: in the 1960s, Oiva Toikka was looking for a way to hide the seams on pressed glass. This gave him the idea of placing small glass drops over the seams. His experiment developed into an entirely new design, which Iittala has since reissued.
