The colourful Taika series
The colourful style of the Taika series will probably surprise anyone who sees Iittala as the epitome of traditional Nordic functionality and simple design: this tableware series from the Finnish manufacturer awakens memories that seemed long forgotten.
The decorative pattern for the Iittala tableware collection was designed by Klaus Haapaniemi, then a newcomer to design. The pattern was originally intended to decorate Heikki Orvola's Aika series, but the result was so impressive that Iittala decided to launch a new tableware series instead.
And Taika really is different: "When I was little, I loved watching The Little Mole by Czech illustrator Zdeněk Miler and many other Eastern European and Russian animated films. I still like the handmade style of those animations," says designer Klaus Haapaniemi. That handmade, folk-inspired style is clearly visible in the Taika pattern.
Taika adds a whole new facet to the Iittala range, while still following Iittala's well-known mix-and-match principle, which lets you combine all Iittala products freely. Taika tableware is made of high-quality porcelain and is microwave, freezer, oven and dishwasher safe.
