The colourful Twergi collection by Alessi
With the Twergi collection, Alessi has been reviving the centuries-old tradition of woodturning since 1989. At the time, many young designers were fascinated by the simplicity of the lathe and, together with the now renowned designer Ettore Sottsass, created a variety of wooden products. Sottsass's designs stand out for their combination of sculptural shapes and bold colours – both characteristic of the designer.
The name Twergi means "goblin" and comes from the dialect spoken in the valleys around the Alessi company. According to legend, the Twergi were quick to change their mood and taught people, among other things, how to use wood and other resources from the forest. The collection was created as a tribute to wood.
The Twergi collection includes practical kitchen accessories such as spice mills, corkscrews, storage containers and bowls, made of wood in cheerful, bold colours and unusual shapes.
